Where You Are.
Where You're Going.

A seven-level path of clearing and ascent.

The Spiral School of Awakening is the seven-level methodology carried by Dane Tomas and The Spiral Institute — a synthesis where Spiral Dynamics meets the chakra system, the Hawkins Levels of Consciousness, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming as one integrated path of clearing and ascent. Spiral Dynamics names the stages (Dr Clare Graves's lifelong research, formalized by Christopher Cowan and Don Beck). The Spiral takes that map and braids it with the body's energetic architecture and the work of moving up the ladder of consciousness. Inside Numen Lumen, the Spiral is offered as a thirteen-week practitioner training, building on the Emotional Clearing certification.

The Lineage

The work began with Dr Clare W. Graves, a US psychologist at Union College, New York, whose lifelong research into adult development across the 1950s and 60s revealed something the field had largely missed: human consciousness develops in levels — predictable, distinct stages, each with its own values, fears, and ways of organizing reality.

Graves's work — sometimes called Gravesian Theory — was carried forward by two of his students, Christopher Cowan and Don Beck, who named the model and gave it the structure used today: Spiral Dynamics. Each level a color, each color a worldview, each worldview a way of being human.

In Numen Lumen the framework is taught as more than theory. It is the underlying map of The Spiral — the seven-level methodology developed by Dane Tomas of The Spiral Institute, where Spiral Dynamics meets the chakra system, the Levels of Consciousness, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming as one integrated path of clearing and ascent. Numen Lumen offers the Spiral as a thirteen-week practitioner training, building on the Emotional Clearing certification.

The Eight Levels

Each level a color. Each color a worldview. The map ascends from survival to systems thinking, from tribe to transcendence — and continues opening beyond.

I
Beige · Survival

Physical senses dictate the state of being. Survival is the only question. Birth, infancy, the most primal layer of human experience.

II
Purple · Tribal

The shift from individual to kin. Animism, ritual, ancestral ways. Belonging is safety. The tribe is the world.

III
Red · Power

The self steps forward. Egocentric, impulsive, immediate — the warlord, the teenager, the voice that finally says no.

IV
Blue · Order

Rules, law, doctrine, hierarchy. Higher authority directs living. Conformity is virtue. The search for truth and ultimate meaning begins here.

V
Orange · Achievement

The pragmatist. Strategic, calculating, results-oriented. Science, capitalism, optimization. The world becomes a thing to manipulate and master.

VI
Green · Ecology

The collective returns at a higher octave. Empathy, pluralism, ecology, consensus. Individual goals give way to community and care.

VII
Yellow · Systems

The mind that sees the whole map at once. Functions over rules. Interconnection over identity. The first level that can hold all the levels below as valid.

VIII
Turquoise · Holistic

Transpersonal living. Collective consciousness. Awareness of the energetic field as a whole. The frontier where Spiral Dynamics opens into what's next.

Each level builds on the last. None is "better." Each is the right answer to the conditions that called it forward — and each is outgrown when the conditions of the next level appear.

Spiral Dynamics & the Chakra Levels

Inside the Spiral, the developmental levels are mapped onto the chakra system. The same ascent — read through the body's energetic centers.

How One Uses This

The framework is not for diagnosis. It is for orientation. Three questions, asked honestly, will open the map for you:

I

Where am I standing?

What worldview is currently running you — not the one you read about, but the one your reactions reveal? Notice what you defend, what you dismiss, what you cannot stop arguing with. The level you live in shows itself in what triggers you.

II

What am I outgrowing?

The levels do not get crossed by force; they get crossed when their conditions exhaust themselves. What used to make sense and no longer does? What were you sure of last year that has gone quiet? That is the level letting go of you.

III

What is calling me forward?

The next level shows up first as discomfort with the current one. What feels true that the old worldview cannot account for? That direction is your next leap. The work is to clear what holds you in the level you've outgrown — so the leap can land.

The Work That Moves the Spiral

Knowing the map is the beginning. Moving up the spiral takes the actual clearing of what holds you in the level you've outgrown. There are two doors here — taught in sequence.

I

Begin with Emotional Clearing

The release modality at the heart of the Spiral, taught here as a three-day practitioner certification. Muscle testing, the Chinese-medicine emotions chart, and meridian release — the practical tool for clearing the stuck patterns that hold each level in place. The prerequisite for the Spiral practitioner training, and a complete certification in itself.

Train as a Spiral Practitioner

The thirteen-week hybrid training built on Dane Tomas's Spiral methodology. You receive the entire seven-level arc as a client, then learn to deliver it under instructor supervision. Pre-recorded content for the theory, weekly live practice for the doing, supervised peer practicum for the certification. Held by Numen Lumen, certified at completion.

The map is not the territory.
But the right map shows you where the territory opens.

If This is Calling You

If you'd like to talk through where you are on the map, or which door makes sense for what you're carrying — write to us. The conversation is free. The clarity that comes from it usually saves time.

Numen Lumen is a wisdom-tradition school. The Spiral School of Awakening is the seven-level methodology created and taught by Dane Tomas at The Spiral Institute (thespiral.com). It incorporates Spiral Dynamics — a framework for adult development originated by Dr Clare W. Graves and formalized by Christopher Cowan and Don Beck — together with the Hawkins Levels of Consciousness, the chakra system, and NLP.
